Farm Credit Services of Illinois Announces Scholarships Champaign, Illinois, February 18, 2004 – Farm Credit Services of Illinois today reinforced its support of today’s farm youth with the announcement of more than $6000 in scholarships available in 2004 to assist students in pursuit of agriculture or agriculture-related careers. “Pursuing a degree involves a significant financial commitment,” said Ron Frenn, Farm Credit Services of Illinois President & CEO. “We are proud to show our support for the next generation of agriculturalists by offering high school seniors our new We Understand Agricultural Scholarship Program.” The We Understand Scholarship Program offers six $750 scholarships, one in each of the Association’s six regions, and is designed for high school seniors pursuing an agriculture or agriculture-related degree at any university, college or community college. Selection will be based on a combination of academic achievement, community/church/extra-curricular activities, 4-H and FFA involvements, and a written essay. In addition to the new We Understand Agricultural Scholarship Program, Farm Credit Services of Illinois provides two scholarships through Southern Illinois University College of Agriculture and finances six scholarships for the Illinois Youth Cooperative Council. “Young people in agriculture need access to reliable sources of scholarship funds, and with the introduction of the We Understand Agricultural Scholarship Program, young people will have access to one more tool that can help them realize their dreams,” Frenn said. Applications are available at any Farm Credit Services of Illinois office or online at www.usfarmcredit.com. Farm Credit Services of Illinois, a farmer-owned cooperative with $1.3 billion in assets, provides financial and insurance services to farmers and rural residents in the southern 60 counties of Illinois through its 23 branch offices.
