Champaign, IL,
January 8, 2007 – High school seniors interested
in pursuing an agriculture or agriculture-related degree should
apply for the Farm Credit Services of Illinois’ We Understand
Scholarship. The program offers more than $15,000 in scholarships.
The scholarships offer
an
opportunity to demonstrate the Association’s commitment to youth, according to Ron
Frenn, Farm Credit Services of Illinois President and CEO.
“We understand the significant financial commitment involved with pursuing
a college degree. This scholarship program gives us a
way to partner with high school seniors to help make their dreams
of a college education come true,” he said.
The We Understand Scholarship Program was launched in 2004 with six
scholarships, one in each of the Association’s six regions. This
year, 23 high school seniors will receive a $750 We Understand
scholarship. “Each year the number of high school seniors interested
in the We Understand Scholarship Program expands. We are excited and
proud to be able to offer a greater number of students the
opportunity to receive financial assistance,” Frenn said.
High school seniors
pursuing an agriculture or agriculture–related degree at any
university, college or community college may apply for a We
Understand Scholarship. Applications are due March 30, 2007 and are
available at the 23 Farm
Credit Services of Illinois branch offices. Selection is based on
a combination of academic achievement, community/church/extra-curricular activities, 4-H
and FFA involvement, and a written essay. Winners
will be notified by April 13, 2007.
In
addition to the We Understand Scholarship Program, Farm Credit
Services of Illinois provides two scholarships through Southern
Illinois University College of Agriculture and finances six
scholarships for the Illinois Youth Cooperative Council.
